IT’S NOT A CLOUD 2024 / Iron, polyurethane foam and resin / cm 250 x 359 x 450 / L’ Astemia Pentita – Barolo
“It’s not a cloud” is a commissioned work strongly desired by entrepreneur Sandra Vezza, who recalled a previous work of mine exhibited in 2015 on the panoramic terrace of the National Mountain Museum of Turin, on the occasion of my solo exhibition titled “The Cloud Climber.” The sculpture was born from the idea of bringing to light what has been forgotten, of giving a second chance to those dreams we have abandoned. I worked with the material as if I were digging inside myself, layer by layer, to unearth that buried cloud. “It’s not a cloud” is not just a cloud, but the tangible representation of a dream preparing to resurface. Every small volume of the sculpture was designed to evoke the delicacy and lightness of a cloud, while at the same time embodying the strength and purity of a desire that cannot be contained. Here, twelve meters underground, I have moved one of my works. The cellar of Astemia Pentita, like my studio, represents the exact situation in which I felt I wanted this work to reside—from one workspace to another that replicates the intimacy of the first, without ruptures or elaborate constructions… from one home to another. Sandra confided to me that she never had any doubts about this work, and I never doubted that it could reach a dream-like place.
“It’s not a cloud” è un’opera su commissione voluta fortemente dall’imprenditrice Sandra Vezza che si ricordava di un mio precedente lavoro esposto nel 2015 presso la terrazza panoramica del Museo Nazionale della Montagna di Torino in occasione di una mia mostra personale intitolata “Lo Scalatore di Nuvole”. La scultura nasce dall’idea di portare alla luce ciò che è stato dimenticato, di dare una seconda possibilità a quei sogni che abbiamo abbandonato. Ho lavorato sulla materia come se stessi scavando dentro di me, strato dopo strato, per far emergere quella nuvola sepolta.
“It’s not a cloud” non è semplicemente una nuvola, ma la rappresentazione tangibile di un sogno che si
prepara a riaffiorare. Ogni piccolo volume della scultura è stato pensato per evocare la delicatezza e la leggerezza di una nuvola, ma al tempo stesso la forza e la purezza di un desiderio che non può essere
contenuto. Qui, dodici metri sottoterra ho spostato una mia opera. La cantina dell’Astemia Pentita, come il mio studio rappresenta l’esatta situazione nella quale sento che avrei voluto far abitare quest’opera, da un luogo di lavoro ad un altro luogo che riproduce l’intimità del primo, senza strappi o elaborate costruzioni… da una casa ad un’altra.
Sandra mi ha confidato di non avere mai avuto dubbi su quest’opera e io che potesse raggiungere un luogo da sogno.
